My grandmother left me this when she passed away when I was 16. I have held onto it for years, only because she left it to me. Now, 14 years later, I found it in a box of old junk and have been bitten by the coin collecting bug! Funny how these things work huh?

The Peace dollar I got from my Dad (who got it from his Dad) is a 1922d. It will soon be my set of choice. Added a 1923 so far. Called in a absentee bid on a 1921 friday to a local auction house but didn't get a phone call so I guess I didn't get it.

[quote]It will soon be my set of choice.[/qoute] Can I ask how expensive it would be to put together a modest set? I don't believe I would be looking for super high quality coins to begin with but is there any hope of finding decent coins at a decent price? The B&M coin shop here only seems to deal in high grade peace and Morgan dollars.

Actually the Peace dollar set is a good set for beginners who have a LITTLE bit of money Except for three pieces you can put together a nice set in XF-AU for just a little over common "junk" dollar value. In fact MS-63 coins are cheap enough that you could probably include a fair number of coins in that grade if you like. The 21 and 34-S may be a little expensive in that grade but are affordable in maybe the next grade down. The 28 on the other hand is more costly even in the lower grades, but it is possible without breaking the bank for the average person, although a low income collector may have to save up for a little while to get it. I would definitely save for it just a little longer though and get it in a better grade. The reason is because there is very little difference in price between a Good and an XF.

Hey thanks for the info Conder101. That is good to know, I never considered putting together this set because I figured it may be too pricey. But now that I know what to look for I might just have to go for it.

Well as long as the silver price doesn't sky rocket. It shouldn't be too hard to get a set, like conder said, just the rare coins are going to be more of an expense

If you decided to put together a set of Peace dollar try to get a nicely matched set, in grade and coloration. Look at a lot of them before you decide. Peace dollars can be very ugly or extremely attractive no matter what the grade. have fun and welcome
