Or is it? I received this penny and it was marked
1911-D on it's holder, but I thought it didn't look
right, with the 'D' mark being so close to the year.
Is that

1911-D-Wheat-Penny

1911-D-Wheat-Pennyhow it should look?

I am questioning if this isn't really a 1911
and the "D" mint was put on it by someone?

Thanks for any help, it's appreciated...

It is legit don't worry ! The mint mar on the 1911-d is very close to the date just like yours and you can go see for your self on ebay or just google so you can compare with other pics on Internet , looks 100% real to me

Prior to 1990, mintmarks were punched on the die by hand so some position variation is to be expected. Mintmarks touching other devices(date, bust) are not considered normal and can carry a small premium.
