Here is a link to a web-site about FAO coins. The site is run by a German collector and, alas for most readers here, in German (google translation should do the trick were necessary): http://www.fiat-panis.de/

Out of curiosity (I do not specifically collect FAO coins), has the program come to an end? As far as I can tell, the latest (last?) ones were issued roughly 10 years ago.

Quote: list of all FAO coins made. Yes, they were circulated coins. Ari This is indeed a very comprehensive list but does not include all FAO coins issued. One example that I can think of off hand is the Trinidad and Tobago 1995 $1 silver proof version that only 1000 examples were made and is also not included in Krause. There were also a number of gold coins issued that are not included in the list. Finally not all FAO coins were issued for circulation although the majority were.

Yes Christian. Unfortunately FAO made a decision a few years ago not to continue with its coin programme

Thank you for the reply; that is sad indeed. While I focus on different coins, I do have a few FAO pieces, and have always liked the idea that they were both collectibles and awareness raisers ...

I have only briefly heard of FAO coins. I had no idea that there were so many different countries involved with them. I can see a new set in my collection starting already. I have a couple FAO coins as of right now, purely by chance that I liked the design so I bought them. Thanks for all the information listed on this forum. I enjoyed reading and seeing all the coins and documents.

Too bad the U.S. never issued an FAO coin. Wonder if it was ever considered.

Probably not. FAO and the US government ... sore subject. Then again, many other FAO members never issued FAO coins either.

Quote:I was going to bid on this, but figured iy would go ballistic. Only counterstamped FAO, I think. Limited to 500 pieces. About that Uruguayan coin, originally was minted adhering to FAO program, then on 1987, 2500 coins were counterstamped to celebrate 20 years of Banco Central del Uruguay, using an off center counterstamp; then on 1997, 500 more coins were counterstamped to celebrate 30 years of BCU, this is the coin shown.
