rodime: I used the word recycle with paper - I am sure you didn't catch that. Since I throw out so little electronics it is not worth my time to recover metals myself. My city does recycle electronics and batteries. I make sure to drop them off.

K_K: Thanks for the response from the mint. Too bad it is only a one year thing. Hopefully the RCM will change their minds and make it yearly.

It is funny that they used the number 200,000.00. If they would have used the tenths or hundreds number holder that really would have caused a "controversy". :P

Maybe C_C was pointing out that the maple leaves don't really form a letter "C"? It is a good comparison though. The 100 year dollar has a M. C. Escher Metamorphosis feel.

Would be nice to know how many are still available. 200,000.00 is a lot of coins but it seems that demand has stalled... once a few posted remarks (including myself) regarding the non-redeemable aspect of this coin. As of yet, we have not received any feedback from the Mint.

The "C" theme isn't new, as illustrated in my previous post. Actually, 6 images formed a better-shaped "c" on the 2008 dollar than the $20 IMO. I think the "commemorative" aspect of this $20 is dubious. At any point, the Mint can arbitrarily claim to commemorate Canada's strength. Besides, commemorative coins usually have a date range which this one doesn't have.

canadian_coins: The RCM's 100th coin is definitely under-appreciated.

The "commemorative" is merely a word to use so they can make it clear that, at least for now, it is not the first in any planned series. So, don't expect another $20 in 2012.

So far the coins has received an average 4/5 rating on the Mint's web site. Low scores for the "not so legal tender" and high scores for the "good deal".

Well... the low scores are gone. Those who questioned the not-quote-legal-tender aspect of this coin have been yanked off from the Mint's reviews.

Can-coins...I also noticed yesterday that 2 reviews were missing...But you ?ed the legal tender aspect...but yours is still there...and one review...with only 1 star...stating what a terrible deal this coin is is still there...so there must be another reason for the mint discarding 2 reviews

Good Design, I would have said best ever deal but, coin has few gms less of Silver so, I give 4/5. Anyways I bought one. More people will be attracted to buy if the coin is of 10gms instead 7, 8, 9 gm for the value [$] that what I think.

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint $20 Fine Silver Commemorative Coin (2011):

I think it is awesome that the Mint is allowing the public to trade some of their paper currency into something that has its face value partially backed by precious metal content. Hopefully we will see more in this style of coin.

Not Quite Legal Tender?
By Canadian_Coins from USA on 2/2/2011
Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments about Royal Canadian Mint $20 Fine Silver Commemorative Coin (2011):

Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic deal for a collector coin. But is it really money? One mint representative stated that the face value of NCLT are symbolic and further... "that our numismatic coins cannot be redeemed at a financial institution for their face value."

Perhaps the Mint needs to clarify the statement and explain what "Legal Tender" really means, if anything, for NCLT.

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint $20 Fine Silver Commemorative Coin (2011):

7.96 grams of silver for [$]. works out to [$] per troy ounce. Last time I checked silver was selling for under $30. With a mintage of 200000, this coin is won't appreciate fast either. All in all a bad deal I'd say.

I swear there were more reviews questioning the fact that it could not spent as real money. Oh well, still I am disappointed by the Mint not issuing a statement and clarifying the issue.

The questions are simple: Is a Canadian creditor obligated to accept NCLT products as payment from a debtor. Is a Canadian financial institution obligated to accept NCLT products for deposit.

Seems like some people don't know how to access all the coin reviews from the RCM. Here's the link, http://reviews.mint.ca/product-revi...c/index.html
If you want to check out the reviews on the $20 Commemorative Coin, click the above link and scroll to the bottom of the Silver category.

Thanks for the link Mr Piedfort. I checked but the review list appears to be missing a few. For instance the $20 only shows (1) review.
