Yesterday, I went to the local regions bank near my university and bought 5 nickel rolls from the bank. I ended up with a 1939 P, 1940 D, 1953, 1958, and a few 1964's, and finally a 2009 D!! I feel kind of lucky on the 2009 and its in darn good shape. I found a 2009 P last week as well and it looked straight from mint. I believe I am going to have an authorized dealer ship these off and have them graded by PCGS for future money down the road. Id say they are both at least MS65+.

Afterwords, I rolled down to the local coin shop and saw a nice 1955 BU Franklin half that I had kinda been wanting to add to the collection. He wanted 20 for it but I haggled him down to 15 and he said that was what he had paid for it and was just trying to help me out. So, I feel like I did pretty well on that one.

He did really good for you on the franklin. Under 3 million minted,55 years old, bu, about $12 in silver.
You might just want to put those 2009 jefferson's in a 2x2 and see what happens. I believe there are a ton of them
in mint state being hoarded. I don't believe they will worth the price to have them slabbed.
Just my opinion though. If you like slabbed coins go for it.

I think you'd be hard pressed to rationalize slabbing a 2009 nickel.
Spending $30.00 to have it graded, should only be done if the price ever materializes to warrant that......and it may not ever.

But it IS worth keeping and hanging on to. It IS a VERY low mintage in business strike for sure.

The best future money on the 2009 P or D's might be to just have a "roll" of them available for sale 20 years from now.
At best, IMO, one could expect something similar in the realm of the 1950 D Jefferson.....and that coin is 60 years old now !
The only thing special with that one, is simply a "low mintage" too. And you CANNOT FIND THOSE IN THE WILD, unless you're REALLY lucky. In MS-60, the '50 D's are what ? ...--- $10.00 to $12.00 I believe.
This 2009 Jefferson CAN be found in the wild right now, and in decent condition. This won't be the case when enough time passes. Whatever is out there will be snapped up, and what remains in circulation will quickly get beat up and worse with time, so that's why I'm lookin' for em' right now.
This is partly why I think the 2009's will just be pretty much like this someday.

I avidly pursue them too though. Last night I found 4 2009 D mints, and 2 2009 P mints.......I am quite ecstatic about it too !
I don't know if I'll find enough to make "rolls" of them.....but I'm tryin' !....
Most of mine have been in average condition too....nothing spectacular really. In fact one of my three P's that I have now, has some nasty "crud" on it. I need to be cleaning or dipping that one sometime.

Nice pickup on the Franklin, but I wouldn't spend the money sending the 2009 to a grading service - I don't think you'll get your money's worth...

Thanks for the insight guys, ya I feel I did pretty well yesterday. As far as getting them slabbed, I will just put them in a 2x2 instead. I might try and get some of my coins slabbed though. On average, I notice that most slabbed coins get a lot more value than the raw coins. I will look more into it.

Keep in mind that the cost of slabbing may not make up the difference you are seeing. I think you are doing the right thing by keeping them in a 2x2.

Wise decision IMHO.

I respectfully disagree with eaglefoot ....

Despite all the energy being spent on announcing the 2009 Jefferson as 'low-mintage' ... facts are that the 69,360,000 of them will soon flood the market and slabbing anything less than a true MS68FS or so is a horrible waste of money.

Agreed ... the 2009 Jefferson are tough to come by today ... but the US Mint is not going to melt those 69 million coins.

Find true gem 2009 and place aside in rolls or 2x2 .... maybe in 20 years they might be worth something.

Good for you! I still haven't found a 2009D and only one 2009P. I'm also missing the 2009P Roosevelt despite buying numerous rolls over the last few months.

Nice finds!
I agree that a 2x2 is the best choice for those nickels. I, myself, have not yet come across a single 2009- P or D.
