This maybe a dumb question, or it may be the question that saves me future heartache: When searching rolls for Kennedy halves, what do you do with the ones that you don't need or are in too bad of shape to fit into your collection? I am new to the hobby and don't want to toss out what should should be saved but I also don't want to sit on $300 worth of Halves that are in terrible condition. Do I sell them back to the bank? Do I take them to my local dealer and give her a shot at them? As always, the knowledge on this forum is better than any other I have found and I thank you in advance for any advice that you have on the matter. Best, Timmy30

well after you search for silver, errors, varieties, DD's, and NIFC's, the only thing to do is take them back to the bank or spend them.

If you are referring to regular halves that have no value but face, dump them back at the bank. If you mean a beat up proof, try the dealer or ebay.

McDonald's will always take a handfull of halfs for a nice cheeseburger and fries -- the official meal-out of the Obama economic recovery.

I spend all of mine. Always gets interesting responses, and many people actually cash them out of the register, so in essence you stimulate coin collecting by spending them.

I agree. They still spend very well.

I have both spent them and taken them back to the bank. When spending them, it's fun to see the look on their face when they first see them. I had one person in the drive through that just kept looking at them. I'm guessing they didn't know what they were but finally figured it out. I've also left them for tips when eating out.

I suggest taking them a different bank than the one you got them. Generally banks are happy to get rid of them and not so happy to receive them. It helps to develop a good relationship with the bank tellers and find out when it most convenient for them to receive coins if you plan to "dump" coins often. Some will say to bring by on Tuesday mornings or whenever is just before their Brinks truck arrives.

I agree...Spend them. Especially in places that have teenage employees. Its fun to watch the responses.
Cooooollll, Are these real?, it's only $1.76, why did you give me 4 of them. You mean they aren't dollars....The list goes on. Spend them and enjoy.
