Hi everyone, I spent my Saturday night sorting the last of the wheat cents I inherited from my dad. I came across a container that he labeled 1957-D Bad Date. After inspecting a good percentage of the container I determined that in most cases, there seems to be extra material inside the corner on the top of the five. Others had extra material inside the top of the loop of the nine. On some, there were both. It really doesn't look like post mint damage but I can't seem to find any info on or about these. Sorry, I simply don't have any picture posting abilities at the current moment. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

if it looks similar to this, it is just a filled "9".

what happens is that the piece of the die that creates the hole in the loop of the "9" breaks off and creates a filled "9".

Interesting! I googled 1957 D filled 9 and started finding more info! Thanks for getting me on track Wild Bill! I just checked and most of mine look to be more like "filled fives" than filled nines. I did find two that have a filled B in the lower half of the B in Liberty. Dad also had some 1953's in there too that I missed on the first go around.

Die chips, they are fun to find and I keep every one even though they don't add any value.
