I would keep them in the rolls. That way they would be protected from the elements and exposure. Then, if they fit, it wouldn't hurt to place them into the tubes. That would protect them further.

The problem with leaving them in the rolls is that you have no idea what you actually have. How do you know the rolls actually contain what he says they do? Sure you can look at the end coins, but what if you get a HH or a TT roll? If yo get a HH you have no idea what design it is and if you get a TT you don't know what the mint is. Also you really only have information about the two coins on the ends. Is it a solid roll, all with the same design? Or could it have mixed circ coins in between those end coins? There is only one way to know and that is to open the roll. Of course doing that throws away al "Original roll" premium. But years down the road if I was going to buy a so called "original roll", to me it is only worth face value until I see what is inside.

I'd leave 'em rolled. I won't pay a premium for cents that aren't in the original machine roll.

I agree. I would break it open. I collect coins, not paper.

I'd open them...I once put seat covers on my new truck, then when it was time to sell, I took them off and the seats looked fantastic....and I thought what a fool I was to not even enjoy them but somebody else would. And add the fact that you could sell them sometime down the road, and the guy opens them and makes a new, valuable discovery.

Don't the paper wrappers have sulfur in them, which would tone the coins? Just depends on if you want BUs or toners 20 years down the road.
