While collecting and purchasing various silver coins, I have ended up with some 15 nice silver coins that turns out (on closer inspection) to be silver plated to look good or nice for the photo session

I have thought about it and came to the following probable things to do with the coins, but still undecided:

1. Resell or trade it as scrap silver
2. Throw it out the window
3. Clean it with strong bar soap and toothbrush to take out the silver plating
4. De-silverize it by reverse silver plating done by a jewelry maker
5. give it away
6. others?

what do you think I should do with it? I really dont know which album I can file it into

Thanks for any comments !

I would give them to children. You never know what coin will be the one to start a child on a lifelong journey of collecting. Bob

I once had a half sovereign gold plated to hide two silvery looking mount marks. The amount of detail lost was surprisingly little. I was never going to expect the coin to be more valuable after the plating, but most of the value was lost by the mount marks anyway, even though they had been very expertly removed.

The coin? A young head shield half sovereign with S mint mark. Condition after plating....nearly VF.

You didn't mention what type of coins you have. Regardless if those were mine, I'd do as already noted to give them away on the contest forum for for YN's only. You could easily mention they are only plated but if free, kids really like anything free.

I like the "give them to kids" option.
You could really make a kids day by giving them a coin.
I've given away "cull" arrowheads to kids and they go nuts...... it makes their day!
