Hi. I'm just wondering if there are any Shield cent errors I should be watching out for? Thanks!

Dottir:
I was wondering the same thing. I'm hoping if there are, that it will be the Denver mint that produces the error. I am covered up with 2010 D cents here in San Diego Canada

Denver ones are the ones I keep getting in rolls or change too ;)
I haven't come across mentions about the Shield cents as far as errors or varieties go, as yet. Well, I found a mention online of something and now can't find it again and don't remember what was mentioned. My brain is so non-absorbant lately!

Only thing I've found so far is a light die crack through the top of lincolns head. Running north to south. WOLF

The only thing I can say is there are a few different die varieties out there of 2010. I havent heard of any errors that are worth much yet. I came across a repetive cracked die in the same location but the value is only about 5-10 cents a piece. I just sold 20 of them for 99 cents plus 4 dollars shipping and handling. So someone paid alot more than what I thought I would get for them. The cracked die is on the reverse on the bottom going over the O in the sheild towards the bottom left corner of the coin.

Well, technically, any possible error is possible. So look for them all!
As far as varieties, there are a couple listed on coppercoins for Philly.

What state must one live in to get an equal mixture of both mints?

Errors are just a one for a few time happenings. Wrong planchet, incomplete planchet, lamination/delamination/peel, brockage, indent, Cuds, double struck, flip over strike, struck through errors, mirror brockage, struck through capped die, die cap (not the same), broadstruck centered/off center, wrong stock. Errors can happen on any denomination at any time and are usually striking errors. Varieties are made on the die not a striking error. RPM, doubled die, over dates, over mint marks. Die deteriation, die abrasion, polishings/clashes/scratches/die dots/cracks/chips/breaks, missing devices (also over polishing of dies) are just part of the die wear processes that really have not extra value until they become extreme. Hope this helps with correct definitions of error/variety/just wear and tear die problems.

Hi All, Just a slight clarification.. Die Varieties are on the die. ...RPMs, OMMs, Doubled dies and the like. Varieties are planned design changes like Large Date and Small Date cents....Wide Rim and Narrow Rim , 1979 P Susan B. Anthony dollars, for example are Varieties. Thanks, Bill
