Without giving too much information away, thought it would be fun if you look up what's different about this coin:

Here's-One-Obsure-Chinese-Silver-Coin

Sure it features General Yuan Shi Kai and struck in 1914 but there's something about this which makes it different.

Also, this is overstruck over something... :)

Seems pretty neat but the real irony is, if this turns out to be a counterfeit which is the unfortunate scene going on with Chinese coins, I spent a fortune on this coin. Weighs: 26.5g

:O :O :O Do I see Britannia's shield on Yuan's forehead?!

Oh wait a bit - it's "Da" so it's a Qing dynasty silver... But wouldn't it have been great if it was really struck over a British Trade dollar?

wd1040: very good! I have never seen anything like this before - it still doesn't matter what the original planchet is but this is the first time I've seen one that's overstruck. It's common with copper coins as Korean 5 fun were used to overstrike but this is a first.

svslav: Nick pick up. It's struck in Gansu province but this province is poorer than other regions. And such, coins struck in the area were struck in a lower silver content and if I am not mistaken, it was traded with a lower face value. Here's more information about this coin: http://home.netvigator.com/~ykleungn/yuansk2.htm

I think I saw a picture of that in the 2010 World coin catalog from Krause. I could be imagining things though.
