Hey guys, My grandfather just gave me this coin and I'm having trouble finding anything about it. He doesn't remember how he got it, and he asked me to try to find out what it was. I was looking online and to my eyes it looks similar to some medieval coins I saw. Its kinda worn and whatever writing is on it is too difficult for me to decipher (thought it might be cyrilic or something from the greece/turkey region). Can you guys help me with this? Thanks.

Welcome.

We can help, but you will probably find the answer disappointing.

It's a very crudely rendered replica of a Spanish "Reyes Catolicos" silver coin, probably sold or given away as a souvenir "pirate coin". See this old thread and follow the links from there to even more examples people have posted here.

Great info Sap. I found one of these last year and was totally stumped as to what it was based on, if anything.
Thanks!
