I found four older looking presidential coins in some coins my grandpa had given me. I have one for George Washingtn, Zachary Taylor, Andrew Jackson, and Calvin Coolidge.

These coins/tokens all have the years that the men were presidents and they have saying on the back of each.

The George Washington one says "First in war, first in peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen. served eighteen years as president without pay"

Can anyone tell me a little bit about these coins/tokens and/or what they might be worth?

thanks for any info.

Over the years MANY different companies have issued tokens of the Presidents. The vast majority of them are worth what ever the value of the metal in them is worth.

Interesting quote from the medal. Washington was President for eight years not eighteen and he WAS paid. He did serve as General of the Army for years without pay. At his own request he declined any pay and just requested that the Continental Congress pay his expenses. The Congress agreed, and Washington;s "expenses" ran up to over four times what his salary would have been. When he was elected President he tried to get the same deal there, "no pay just pay my expenses". Congress turned that down flat and insisted on the salary.
