That puzzles me too John1...found a 1988 with MD on the 1st 8 only...should have posted a question on how. Maybe coop or coppertop will come back and explain.
The only explination I can think of for this is that the devices of the face are deeper into the die that the other devices. So during ejection they have touched the die on the way out of the chamber. It is still Machine Doubling as the machine caused this after/during the strike.
Anyhow, Machine Doubling can manifest itself in MANY ways. I have never bothered trying to study exactly what causes what, because in the large picture it's not really important. Point here is, Machine Doubling is just Machine Doubling. If you figure out what it looks like and just skip all of it, you're far better off and your chances increase in finding something that actually does have value.
