Help-On-Thai-Token/Medal

Anyone have any idea what this is, what it commemorates, etc.? It is Thai with, I think, the date 2542 on it as well as some Chinese characters at the bottom (I see a number 9 there). The token is copper or bronze, measures 32mm and weighs 14.43 grams.

Thanks in advance.

That is the Commemorative Medal on the Occasion of the 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej which was on December 5, 1999 (2542) - that's the date above the Chinese characters. I don't know what Chinese is about, I'd think they were related to the cycle of 12 years, like zodiac symbols, but there are only 9 of them.
