$50 coin at best

With that horrible polishing? I wouldn't think it would go that high.

No disrespect intended but I think that coin looks amazing...
and I'm no fan of grading companies or their product

If you think that coin looks "amazing", then you should be a fan of grading companies because that means you have difficulty identifying a harshly buffed coin that is now worth diddly squat. A legit TPG would not slab that coin without a Details Grade and Cleaned descriptor. Grading companies and their slabs help to keep novices from unknowingly buying altered/damaged coins. That same coin in a slab would probably have sold for about 2-3% of the final bid

TPGs help raise awareness of altered coins--and resultant value. I'm not a strict grader, but I do determine a coin's value by the % of original struck surfaces. If you remove 90% of a coin's original surface, what is left? You're left with a shadow of that coin's unique qualities.

Let me reevaluate my assessment of what this coin is now worth....$15 at best!
Novices must learn how to properly assess a coins surfaces and what it really is, and this one was a no brainer to some of us, or this will be the result more often than not.
