This one peaked my curiousity. It's an 1855-O Seated Liberty half dollar - arrows at date - however, it would appear that someone, years ago, tried to alter the date. My question is - why? With the arrows, it couldn't be made into a 1835, also - no 1835 O SL halves listed. And, the value of both in G-4 is about equal. Do y'all think someone tried to alter the date, or was it just malicious mischief?
Also, I notice doubling on the date which might have increased it's value; however, with it being defaced the way it is, it's probably worth no more than the current bullion price. Any comments?

It's interesting. I can't figure out why someone would have messed with the date on this coin either. I don't know a lot about the Seated varieties. Hopefully, someone who knows more than me will respond.

it looks like a post mint tampering but I could be wrong (it happens alot)also besides the tampering the serif for the first 5 is different from the second I will have to check the Breen catalogue to see if there is anything in there on it.
