I like it . It has eye appeal to me. But then again, I'm no expert.

It's not too distracting for those of us who are tone deaf...I like it.

I think I got a fair deal on the coin. I personally think it has exceptional strike. I have bought coins from this seller before and they have been exceptionally brilliant in hand.

That sort of toning looks nice. It should be preserved in it's current condition. An airtight capsule would provide the solution. That would mean that you cannot store it with your lesser nickels. Pity. Them's the breaks!

No it isn't distracting at all. I would've bought it myself. nCongratulations of an exceptional nickel!

I think it's perfect. The splash if color accentuates it just right. Congratulations!

So you're telling me not to crack this one out of the slab huh?
Even if I put it into the Dansco with the shield, in a 1g freezer bag inside the closet? Or would tupperware work better?
I want to be able to display it (even though it would only be the second coin in the album), but if it's going to continue to tone then I'm not interested in that.

I'm having concerns about the use of my Dansco 7070, but for a different reason you may want to consider. Although I've only removed and reinserted the plastic slides a few times and I've been extremely careful, I see scratches on the slides. They correlate with high points on the coins. Seems like bits of cardboard fiber get dislodged too. I would factor in potential damage from the album for a coin like that when deciding to break it out. Others have really high end sets in albums and don't seem to be worried much about this, so maybe it's just me.

One I think I need to make another thread ;) But you're right - the cardboard fibers do tend to dislodge sometimes. I've noticed that with my Jeffersons. I'm not as worried about them though because this coin would be considered the most expensive if it were in that set. However, in the set I'm building this is going to be one of the cheaper ones so I'm not sure (maybe mid range - I haven't priced all the ones out below $500 yet).
Thank you for pointing that out though - I think I shall start another post though as this one could get away from the topic and might not get all the response and views if it were about the album.

Back on topic...IMO, no the toning is not too distracting and I'm not a huge fan of toning. Actually, it enhances the appeal of the coin for me. Nice pick up.

Haha OneBowl. I didn't mean it to be mean or anything. The only reason I even brought this up was because I bought this coin for the strike quality. I personally love toning, but I honestly did not care about it one way or the other for this coin. The set that I'm trying to build is one of strike quality (hopefully it will be finished by the time I'm 50!) so toning was just an added bonus (however it might carry some extra monetary value too).
Hopefully I'm not rambling - been up for quite a while.

The toning is great! Much better with than without in this case!

I have an MS-65 1938-D Buff that's almost as gold as a Presidential dollar... That 1916 (P) is a beauty!

It was just put in the mail yesterday - I can't wait to get this in hand and take some more photo's of it. Not that you'll really need them. This ebay seller's pictures are usually spot on.
