I just got this, was looking at it under magnification, and noticed someting strange going on with the mint mark between the tip of the top of the 'S' and the curve in its middle portion. I tried to get a good photo of it...what do you think?

Probably from polishing. There is a lot of lines in the area around the mint mark. Based on the image I don't think it is an RPM or OMM.

I think the die chipped between the tip of the S and the body. Chips like this that close an S ojoin the knob on a 6 or 9 to the body closing the loop etc are not to uncommon.
