As part of my "Atomic" topical set, I picked up a set of 12 Nuclear War Threat coins issued by San Marino in 1983. On the 20 Lire coin (KM-149), the Krause manual describes it as "Torch above man". In the context of the set I think it's much more likely it's a falling bomb & not a torch.

Occasionally I come across minor errors & omissions in the Krause manuals. Are they open to receiving comments for corrections, or would that be a waste of my time?

The Krause if full if inaccuracies.
Just because above "the thing" it doesn't look like flames I tend to agree with you that it is not a torch.
But it is rather shortcomings of the design that it looks a bit ambiguous.

The whole set is kind of quirky & abstract. (I like it.) This guy looks like the Michelin man on a diet.

From the brochure about that set: "20 Lire (...) A painful image of something falling from the heavens: not the manna promised by the Scriptures, but Death, with the weapons which Man has devised."

Thanks for the info Christian! I'd love to find a copy of that brochure - some of the other Nuclear War Threat designs are even more enigmatic.

Will try to scan and upload the four English pages tomorrow. The booklet has 24 pages but is trilingual (Italian-English-German). Stay tuned ...

Ha, just noticed that the booklet is quadrilingual (the three above plus French). Anyway, I scanned the front page plus the four English language pages. Five .jpg files, in one **(No Zip Files Allowed)** file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1265378/SanMarino1983 **(No Zip Files Allowed)**

They are a bit funny in a way. There's not too many coins in the world with monsters on them.

Christian - thanks again for the download. ~ JFK ~
