i was wondering if anyone has any info about buying gold or silver bullion coins from the U.S. mint? is it possible? and if so would you get a better deal than buying from a coinshop? and would you still have to pay a premium on each coin? I just want to get the best price if I decide to invest, I just might be paranoid..but I always feel like the coinshops are trying to get over on me by overcharging. so is it possible to cut out the middelman and get a better price? I need to know... hope to get a response..thanks!

If you are referring to the investor-grade, uncirculated bullion coins, your answer would be no. The US Mint only sells the uncirculated bullion through a dealer network due to the fact that the US Mint needs large orders to reliably recoup from precious metals contracts. The margin is small enough that the Mint would lose money if they didnt sell orders by the thousands of coins.

If you are referring to the collector-grade, proof bullion coins, yes the US Mint does directly sell those. The Silver Eagles are $27.95 for the current year issues and the new Buffalo 24kt 1oz bullion is $800. Also available are the varying sizes of the Gold Eagles, I just cant remember their prices off the top of my head

biokemist6..thanks for the info. yes I was reffering to the investor grade bullion. I guess that shoots down my idea about getting a better price (bummer) but I'm still wondering if you would get a better price if you were to buy the collector-grade, proof bullion coins from the mint vs. a coinshop? guess I could reasearch that on my own..( I'm very lazy) ok thx alot for reply .cya
