The Fact that there exists artificial toning solutions on the market, or that the seller is encouraging buyers to use it on a 1916D mercury.

I do not think it is encouragement to use it on 1916D Mercs as much as it is key word spamming which is not allowed by ebay. Everyone searching for a 1916D Mercury will get this auction in the search list even though it has nothing to do with Mercs.

KWS or toning?

Note the listing says
Quote:
Examples of what Tone-A-Coin could do!
, not even that it did cause this toning.

Ethics?

I put a new, white 1999 ASE on the counter. A couple months later, I had a beautiful coin toned on one side. Was the toning natural? It is if you live across the street from a glass factory that uses who-knows-what chemicals!

Is it any LESS natural than if I put the same coin in a sock drawer and it toned over decades?

How about if I somehow concentrate "eau de glass factory" and spray it on white coins in a warm, airtight box for a day or two? Any version is contaminents reacting with metal.
