I was at a coin shop today and they have a 1893 CC Morgan,
that they have graded as VG and will let me have it for $220

I am trying to fill a Dansco dollar date set album, where
you need one coin for each year(any mint mark).

I ask them to hold it for me, and I would come back tomorrow
to let them know if I want it.

From looking at the Red Book I see the 1893 and the 1893 O
have lower mintage and have a lower cost.

The question is what would you experts do, buy the CC or
wait and find a 1893 or 1893 O, at a better grade or cheaper
price... just to fill the one hole.

I started the set just to be able to put more silver away,
so each coin a certain grade is not important to me. The 93 and 95 years are going to be more than silver. I think for those I will want to have coins that may go up in value .. long term.

To me it looks funny that the 93 CC mintage is 677,000 to the
1893's 378,000 and the 1893 O's 300,000, yet the 93 CC books at a lot more money. My gut feeling is to wait for a 1893 O and hope I can get a good deal on it. But is this a really good deal on the 93 CC .. of course is it really a VG, I will have to get the book out and grade it before I buy.

Get the 93O, most CC dollars are so over rated.
Rest in Peace

If it were me, I'd go for the CC if it were problem free. The mintage may be higher, but you also have to take into account how many examples survived. 1893 is one of the toughest CC morgans second only to the 1889-CC. Also, the Carson City examples have always been in high demand, which is an important factor in future value growth. Lots of history there! :-) I'm not a morgan expert, just a humble opinion. Good luck!

$220 for a solid 93CC in VG isn't a screaming deal in my opinion. I would go for the 93O myself.

If the coin is a true VG and problem-free, I'd go for it. Greysheet Bid is at $200, so I'd ask for the $20 off and see what they say.

The CC Morgans will always have the mystique of the Wild West behind them so they will always have that advantage over other Morgans, even ones with lower mintage's

the first thing I have to think about is the availabillity of this coin...Despite the mintage which is a factor... IT MUST BE A PROBLEM FREE COIN...or your money is always subject to interpretain of genuine cleand and ECT....as a raw coin...or why would such a coin be in a
"RAW" state? I love raw coins but most are under MS64, and the price to slab them decreases my investment> Now it's about $40 to slab it, and the initial cost of say $60 for an average MS64 coin...makes my investment at $100 slabbed for a common coin worth 60 bucks....your coin is more sought after.. so it should be slabbed for one: bear its market value......and this ensures its accepted as a certain market value...Raw coins can be a good deal if you hold them within your hand....NOT BY PICTURES....its much like looking online for a girlfriend and t here picture is twenty years earlier....you don't know what you have until its within your eye sight...
