Do these albums have any PVC in the pages or slides? I'm wondering because I am considering purchasing one for Half Dimes.

well I have never heard of them so I can't comment and I am guessing most of the 49 viewers haven't either. Views doesn't meant the person viewing knows what the question is going to be nor does it mean the person viewing knows everything about the item in question so they can answer to be helpful. I am sorry to rant like this but these types of comments about how many views without any responses just doesn't make any sense to me because I am sure everyone on here has viewed a question without making a comment because they didn't know about the item in question, they click to see if there is some information they can use themselves

Hmmm..I've searched google for twenty or so minutes and haven't come up with anything definitive . Either people have had some toning or they haven't. Much like the way some people get toning in the newer albums as well, I think it boils down to how you store the coins and albums themselves. I'm bored so I'll keep looking, hopefully someone else will chime in.

This is a great question, but I regret that I can't provide a definitive answer! I've collected coins for over fifty years now and owned many of the Library albums. Some were purchased along with collections and contained sets of coins within. To my recollection, I don't recall seeing any PVC residue on the coins within. Usually, those more expensive albums were purchased by collectors who were not likely to store them in a basement. There are collectors nowadays who seek and prize those old albums.

Here's a suggestion ... Take a slightly dampened Q-tip and gently swab some of the slides and slots. Is there then any discoloration on the cotton? If not, I'd say you're safe.

I loved the old Library of Coins albums. I had one for every denomination that I collected. I have even purchased a few old ones off ebay to put in the next generation of coins in (nickels, cents and dimes) and just reprint labels.

I got my old one from Fair Lawn coin shop and I remember them saying the paper stock for pages was acid-free. The windows were all acetate as I recall (not PVC as PVC is soft and it was the plasticizers that caused all the problems) . Anyway I have had all my coins in there for years with no problems noted. Some silver did tone, but I think that was unavoidable.

The standard material for coin viewing windows in an album is cellulose acetate. It is commonly used in the world of art for cover protection, overlays, and transparencies. If you are of a certain age, you will probably remember the old overhead projectors used in high school classes- those transparency sheets were typically acetate.
