Hey guys, I'm just wondering if yall have any good reference books for world coins. I need one specifically for German coins, as thats what I am starting to collect other than US coins.

I just got "A catalog of Modern World Coins 1850-1964". So any good books not from that time period would be great.

Thanks

If German and German States are your speciality, then you'd probably prefer to buy Krause's German catalogue, rather than each of the four volumes of the regular Krause catalogues. If non-German coins interest you as well, then the World Coins Krauses are probably your better bet. Unfortunately, Krause goes by century, so the Craig-Yeoman half-century breaks which the book you already own uses don't let you mix'n'match the series.

Standard Catalog of German coins 1501-Present.

Standard Catalog of World coins 1701-1800.

Thanks Sap, they look like good books. A little expensive though.

For German coins-get Jaeger.German catalogue.I have 2010 issue 1871- and I'm very happy with it.Be careful with prices there-usually overpriced in MS.

If you are looking for a book with varieties for, Great Britain pennies, there are two. First one is The Bronze Coinage of Great Britain by Michael Freeman (has farthings up to pennies). Starts from 1860 and up. Can get this book for around $35-$40. There other one is English Copper, Tin and Bronze Coins in the British Museum, 1558-1958 by Peck. This one I have seen priced for $70 up to $175. I don't personally own this one yet, but I heard these are the only two books that list varieties in depth and they both use their own numbering system, so cross referencing could be a pain.

Krause is the one to get. A lot of libraries have that one too, so if its only a few pages you could copy or scan the pages you needed. As for British large pennies, there is a lot of good references online, don't overlook those. Check out https://www.coinsgb.com
