http://cgi.ebay.com/1943-P-D-S-Stee...em4cf33b4febI'm no expert at pricing but these seem like a good deal. I purchased a set and they look just like the picture. is that too good of a deal, fake maybe? just want opinions because people are selling singles on ebay for more than this set.

I've picked some really nice steel cents for low prices, but not the set for that cheap. If they indeed are real nice score!

The price seems ok but I can't tell if they are reprocessed or not.If they are then it would not be that good of a buy.IMHO John1

nevermind, I just looked up what reprocessed is. anyways, having them in hand, how can you tell if they are legit? or if they are fake, reprocessed, or some other thing like that? I don't want non authentic coins in my danscos.

Definitely reprocessed - no question about it. Numismatically speaking, these coins are completely ruined, and I bet the seller knows it.

Of course he knows it, they're priced far too cheap at $3.50 shipped.

Similar sets like those are all over the flea markets. Some have those 3 coins, some have one of each type of cent, some with 3 different types of Nickels, etc. Many are cleaned or poliched to just look pretty. They sell great for people that just want something to look at. They do make a nice presentation but for Numismatic purposes, not great. Wonder who makes all those little plastic cases for those.

To be fair, $3.50 isn't a bad price to pay for a lesson

Quote: having them in hand, how can you tell if they are legit? Replated/reprocessed cents will have an unnatural shininess to them unlike cartwheel luster on a normal coins. Many worn steel cents have also been replated, those should be obvious because of detail wear. Genuine examples will always have raw steel exposed on the rim while replated examples will be completely covered.

I bought the same Item back in December and was worried that they were reprocessed. After getting them in hand and looking at them with a 30x loupe, I say they are real and a good deal.

Looking at these coins I would not have thought they were re-plated as they don't have the shiny chromed look. Of course I believe they are because coppercoins said so and as always biochemist has some wonderful scientifically based evidence (that I did not know) The reason that I would not trust this listing is that the coins shown are not the coins you are buying, and I don't go for that! But really, it you wanted them, aren't plated '43's worth $3.50 shipped?

They do not look like they have an unnatural shine, I have a couple other 43's to compare to and they pretty much look the same to me.

The item description is full of contradictions. It says the coins you will receive are as good or better than the scans. THen it states that there may be dings wear or blemishes which means they are lower grade than the scans. Well which is it. you cant inhale and exhale at the same time.
