I've been learning a lot about error coins from threads here and after seeing some examples of planchet errors I think I have one on a 1917 liberty walking half. It's really old + in poor condition, but I'd be curious if I accurately spotted the error or if it was just hit with something heavy in its nearly 100 year lifetime.

It's located by the L and isn't really noticable from the reverse. It's very noticable from the side though.

It look like it was just smashed. Flattened to overlap maybe?

I too suspect it was just hit. Post mint damaged. Lucky it is minor.

Yes, it's likely an old hit, and longtime circulation, wear, has diminished the degree of the original rim damage. Just think, this coin was circulating during World War I.
