I found some commemorative(?)Confederate States Of America Half Dollars. The Obverse says "Confederate States Of America Half Dollar" with a union shield in the center, the reverse says "Montgomery Civil War Commemoration" around the outside. In the center it says "Good for 50 cents in Cash or Trade at any place of Business or Bank in Montgomery Alabama on or before the close of Business Feb. 14, 1961. Can anyone help me figure out what I do or don't have? I have Pictures but can only e-mail for posting at the moment. I think the coin is Brass?

It is a Civil War Centennial trade token. That type of trade token was quite popular at that time, typically issued by towns and cities to commemorate an event and stimulate the local economy.

The Confederate reverse has been used for a large number of various tokens. I own one that commemorates the first annual meeting of the Society of Medal, Token, and Obsolete Paper Money Collectors which met at the 1961 ANA Convention in Atlanta, GA.

This type of token was used to create unity pointing to a certain event in Montgomery and was both collectible and could be redeemed for cash at that time. Maybe collectible value?

I am unsure of its value but it is a neat token. Anyone else out there have any along the same line they would care to post a pic of? Would love to see some others,
