Child's-Fare---Central-Passenger-Rr-CO---Baltimore-MD

The Central Passenger Rail Road provided service in Baltimore, MD and began its operations on February 6, 1883.

This particular token hails from this era, and was a half-fare token used for child passengers. By creating this token, at the equivalent value of three-cents, the need for making change was significantly reduced.¹

The line, like many of the other lines in the city, did not utilize conductors; rather passengers were expected to deposit their fares themselves in a slot located behind the seat of the driver.

I estimate the token to be of net-VF grade, taking into consideration its wear and the bruise on the reverse rim.

Thanks,

- Cheetah

Atwood's Catalogue of United States and Canadian Transportation Tokens, Third Edition lists this token as being from Louisville, Kentucky. the code on it is Louisville 510Q o B21 Sd.The descriptiongiven is
OBV: CENTRAL PASS R. R. CO. 1/2
REV: HALF FARE TICKET 1/2.

The token for baltimore reads should read
OBV: CENTRAL RAILWAY CO. BALTIMORE
REV: GOOD FOR ONE CHILD'S FARE

Thanks for the information. As you can see in the OP, I used The Numismatist for identification.

See bottom of page 69, top of page 70: http://home.comcast.net/~numismatic...df#view=FitV

Other than Atwood, would you happen to have another source for confirmation? I ask because it wouldn't be the first time Atwood is incorrect.

Thanks,

- Cheetah

Your specimen is #22 in Volume 20 of The Numismatist. The specimen I posted is #23.

See clips below. I will do a bit of digging to clarify.

Thanks again for pointing this out.
