Has any research been done to prepare a graph or table that compares weight Vs. condition?

Perhaps this type of information could be a useful tool in the identification of fakes.

sel_691 we had talked about that on another thread but decided it was almost impossible because of tolerance allowances and the fact that no two coins wear exactly the same. Weight can help in determining autheticity, but it can't be the relied upon as the only factor.

It's getting so you can't even trust the slabs anymore. I predict this will be the downfall of our hobby. I know that sounds extreme but when the average collector is afraid to buy a Morgan-as stated above-it is the beginning of the end

Yeah, I feel the same way. What worries me is when the quality of these fakes is getting better and better.

I would suspect that most fakes are sold on ebay...My suggestion is to learn Morgan and Peace details very well. Also get to know a couple of reputable sellers at your local coin show or a reputable coin shop. This way you will be able to have a leverage if you suspect a fake. I have never bought off ebay and probably never will, too much of a risk for me personally. I don't think Chinese fakes will be the downfall of this hobby. Although uneducated buyers are getting burned I'm sure, and maybe a few educated buyers also but that is why I say to get to know a few sellers personally, less of a chance....
