Hi all,

What's your thoughts on this 1879 Morgan on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/1879-USA-Libert...t_787wt_1139

Could it be a VAM or a poorly struck fake?

Cheers

I think its a fake myself. looks like a seam on the Reverse picture and the details are all missing in areas you wouldn't expect like in the headband that says LIBERTY. My PO-01 example still has full LIBERTY visible. I didn't look to see if the die crack in the T on the reverse matches any specific VAM or not because I am in allot of pain right now but did want to post my concerns

Bryan is 100% correct...... The date, the stars, the eagle, everything...... this is a very poor fake.

But at least it's a gen-u-ine "Antique" fake.

The seller here likely didn't know that this one's a fake. To his credit, he was good enough to post an unkind, accusatory question aa well as his reply about that given subject. Many sellers on ebay don't know much about the currency items they sell. Instead of being accusatory in questioning a posting, I think it wiser to be tactful and ask telling questions. IMHO, it's the so-called coin dealers who dodge the telling questions that present a far more serious problem on ebay.

I'm with you Exo..... this seller had no idea it was a fake..... a lot of folks here in the US would not know a fake 1879 crown from genuine one.
