how high would you go on this if you needed it? I am a lincoln collector so I am way off base on these classic coins, anything wrong with this coin or is it okay to bid on?

Surface doesn't look right to me. That doesn't look like a color I've seen - but I've just started dipping into these coins. It seems to have a good strike, but it's scuffed and worn in high spots pretty bad. I wouldn't put it much higher than AU58 and I would personally go look for another 31-S

It looks like a very flat strike to me. I would personally look for another copy. If you are looking for a type you can buy a slabbed buffalo in better grade for the sane price range as this one.

Soft strike but lustrous. The scruffy areas on the flat spots are not really contact marks on the coin, they were on the planchet before the coin was struck. If a strike is sufficiently weak, the original scruffiness of the planchet will still remain.
Rest in Peace

The color is a little funky. There are better ones for the money out there.
