With doubling on the "date" and "trust" only and not the mint mark....what kind of doubling would it be then?

If it was "Machine " doubling, wouldn't the mint mark be doubled also?

Not necessarily. The thing with MD is that it is random, random, random.

While MD on the mintmark would be a good indicator, it is not always affected even when the date is.

Machine Doubling is flat shelf looking. Yours fits the bill. If it were a doubled die, the devices would be doubled and not pushed like you example.

Thanks.....its funny how one device can be doubled and a device really close is not.....

I wish the TV Show "How It's Made"...would do an episode on " Machine Doubling"......and this would explain it all..

It's pretty simple. The mechanism that holds the dies are slightly loose and the die movement during the strike damages the coins, What you are looking at is actually damage.
