... which silver is best my wife and I are praying about this. if we should sell our 1oz gold Krugerrand and buy some SILVER. we are leaning toward YES on this but if we do decide to buy silver which and what kind will be a better investment. again this is most likely long term. we are not looking to turn this around for a quick profit. i am fairly educated on the matter of different kinds of silver and their numismatic and intrinsic values. should I try and get the most OUNCES of silver? of buy overpriced ASE;s and other bullion? im thinking if I wanted to get the most I would buy 90%, right? I wanted to hedge away from random bullion rounds. ASE's would be nice, but they carry premiums most of the time whereas 90% does not. please help me with this dilemma. thanks SD

I have no answers for you. But a lot of people are still talking 1800 dollar an ounce gold by the end of the year...30 percent increase...not too shabby

Well, if it's just for silver investment, I do still like ASE's. Yeah they carry a premium, but they carry that premium when selling too. If you're buying 90%, I'd buy halves or Peace dollars. larger denominations always seem to be more transferable. If you can find a good deal on any denomination though, I'd take it.

My opinion is that PM's are not an investment...you are speculating. That being said, don't overthink it, go with your gut,it's much more reliable if you have learned to use it .

my gut is new to this. We bought some PM's lat April when silver was 17 and gold was 1100. I feel that gold is A LOT more speculative than silver, being that silver is used more in many industrial uses. So when the economy does correct a bit , IMO I think it will, gold will shrink back and silver will stay more steady. I wish I knew the future. But it's about taking risks. I'm taking a risk by buying any PM. So ASE's or 90%? My MAIN objective in this endavor is to just move some PMs around and want to make sure I get the most out of this transfer. Personally I like 90%. Ie halves ans dollars but I also do like the idea of ASEs. Will ASE's help me longer term than the 90% if I had to choose? Maybe I should split half 90%and half ASE?

If I was buying silver, I would go for the 90%.

I just think instead of paying a premium for ASE's you can buy some more 90% silver. Another reason would be that 90% is not quite as popular as ASE's or other bullion. Many people that are trying to "get in on the action" will go for popular bullion, and not even think about 90% coins.

I would see if I could buy complete sets for around melt. Which can usually be done, I see them on ebay most of the time. Example, circulated Walker sets usually sell for a small premium over melt, same with merc dimes & Barber halves (MINUS THE EXPENSIVE KEYS, because I know someone will be like "YOU CANT GET A 1916D FOR MELT... duh I know). These sets are nice to look at, easy to sell, and I think nicer than a bag of 64' Kennedy's. That way you can play a few markets at once. 1st Scrap Silver 2nd Possible Numismatic increase (who knows how many Barbers, Walkers, Dollars will make it through this melt down?) 3rd It should Make you happy to see them, as opposed to a few bullion coins.. Just my opinion, its worth what ya paid for it!

i guess my concern with 90% vs ASE's would be .. not sure I guess. I mean, weather silver goes up or down, in the end I would have more silver for my $$ going with straight 90% right? I mean if I did and COULD get 90% Peace dollars... that would mean for the 1oz Krugerrand, I would have between $1400 and $1500 respectively... APMEX's price for CHECK or WIRE, I can get 37x2011 ASE;s for $1444 in 90% Peace dollars, if I can get them for JUNK, figuring there would be how much premium on them if they are unc? anyway in JUNK, that is I can get: 55 Peace dollars at todays spot price, is 42.5oz of silver valued at $1475 so.. there is a difference of 5.5oz between ASE's and 90%. that is assuming I can find Peace dollars AT SPOT> how much more of a premium would an UNC rolls of Peace dollars fetch me? becuase that is what I would want more instead of JUNK 90%. then I would be more able to settle a decision if I knew the price gap between 37 ASE's and UNC rolls of Peace dollars. would the margin be smaller or larger or even?

10oz bars are a great way to go if you are not looking at coins. If coins, rolls of silver dollars or halves are a good option.
I've dumped a lot of my gold over the last year and bought silver and numismatic coins. Silver has a lot more uses than gold and coins are way more fun to own than either.

I would suggest, whatever you to be most liquid and appealing to people. Not everyone can buy a Krugerand.

Why don't you sell the 1 oz kruggerand and buy like 2 1/4 oz gold coins and then the rest of the money you buy some 90%. That way you some gold and silver..........diversity!

i like the idea of selling and buying 1/4 golds and 90% silvers....gold and silver prices go up and down like the stock market......so just like the stock market you want a diverse profile so your on both sides of the market....EITHER WAY I wish I had a Krugerrand in my possession

I think it depends on your purpose. If buying for bad times and a hedge against our dollars value going down, I would (and am) buying the pre 1965 halves. I have been lucky to get them for the same price as dimes and quarters, sometimes halves are slightly more costly due to less wear. I feel that these coins are easily recognizable, small denominations and could go back to use as our currency if all else fails. They will always have their silver content value and never be worth less than that or the face. I don't know if I would change gold to silver, that's your call. I might if I had currency just 'extra or for a rainy day' buy some of these coins mentioned. If you purchase silver that has numismatic value and our dollar truly fails, you will only 'get' the silver value anyway so the 'junk silver' in my opinion is the way to go. Just my thoughts. I'm new to the boards, found them recently and I don't know all the abbreviations (don't use them much anyway even when I do!)
