Someone out here has to know more about State Quarters than I do....i found this in some change...it looked weird at first but didn't take much into it until I took it out again at home and looked at it again.....let me know if this is rare for the maryland quarter or if this was a common found problem with the Phili mint on this 2000 quarter
Your coin was 'spooned' - or tapped inward from the edge by hand or machine after it left the mint. This is not a mint error. Purpose for doing something like this escapes me on a Statehood Quarter, but it seems to be rather common. Most common reason would be to tap a silver coin into a ring.
