New member, long time Lincoln Cent collector. Grade of this 1909 S ?

I agree with MS-63..

But, why does the 'S' keep throwing me off, it doesn't look to be in the right spot.

Or, is it just me.

I have thought about getting this and my 1914 D slabbed. The 1914 D, with any luck, will go AU 55 to 58. Hard to say. When we finish unpacking, I will try to take some pictures of the 14 D.

Checked a book that I use as a reference "The Complete Lincoln Cent Encyclopedia" ISBN: 0-87341-445-4. Believe the obverse is from die #4....as pointed out, the low S mint mark - pages 40 & 41 in the above book.

Is there other books dedicated to Lincoln cents that can help?

Excellent photos! I would say MS 64 since I don't see any obvious points with wear.

The carbon spots are of course the main event on this one. Especially on RD examples like this, they do tend to throw off the eye movement through the coin, some. I'd still grade this one MS-64RD. I can understand how others would see it down a grade for those spots, though.

Anyway, nice coin; and can't wait to see that '14-D.

Wish I could take credit for the photo, but I cannot. Bought this from a coin dealer online. I always save the photos of coins that I purchase, just in case.
