But when I flip over the coin, the other side is flipped 180 degrees. Is this common?

If you mean flipping it top to bottom and the design stays upright? This would be normal.

I see you are from Canada. If this was a Canadian cent you would correct about the orientation. U.S. Coins are oriented differently.

As noted ALL USA coinage is made so that when you flip them over, top to bottom, they stay upright. Many have a problem turning them over exactly and end up thinking they have one with the reverse tilted. If you turn that one from side to side, the reverse will now be upside down.
