I found another coffee can of wheat cents. In the bottom were some rolls, including this one:

1957-D-Wheat-Cents,-OBW-Plus-Open-OBW

One end shows a nicely toned 1957-D obverse. The other end is a nicely toned reverse. They look uncirculated.

There was another roll like it, but open on one end, with paper taped over it. I vaguely remember when I was a kid, I got in big trouble for opening that roll. That roll was also all 1957-D coins, and they also look uncirculated to me, with maybe some bag marks.

Here's a high res scan of 20 from that roll:

Obverse sides:
1957-D-Wheat-Cents,-OBW-Plus-Open-OBW

Reverse sides:
1957-D-Wheat-Cents,-OBW-Plus-Open-OBW

I'm guessing I can sell the bankwrapped roll as is. And call it a bankwrapped roll of uncirulated 1957-D's.

It's a pretty common date/mint. I don't think it's that valuable really, but maybe $5 to $10 for the roll, maybe higher on a good night on ebay.

What's the best thing to do with the other roll? Sell one a week? or lots? Use them in other batches to "add value?" (although I don't think that usually works)

I (And others, I'd imagine) would be very interested in the '57-D roll if you wanted to sell it, so I wouldn't bother with ebay and their ridiculous fees and BS.

Well, I'll keep it in mind. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. The still sealed roll I'll probably sell as it is, unopened.

The others, we'll see.

I'm not sure how many posts and how long I need to be on here to offer stuff here. I haven't checked it out too much yet.

purdy coins
I would also be interested down the road in posts to pick up a roll
but I agree ebay would fee you out of anything you would make
maybe put it on craigslist or something if you really want cash now

I'd say adding something to a discussion aside from the obligatory "nice coin". Nothing wrong in doing so, especially if you mean it, but you don't want to run up your post count doing it. Ask questions, answer questions, throw around ideas, opinions, etc. It really isn't hard once you stop thinking about "increasing your post count."

It shouldn't be a chore. Rather, it's a chance for you to learn more about the community and the Hobby. I mean look at the name, "Coin Community Family". I'm very new here but in that short time I've learned a lot and hopefully I've been able to contribute something worthwhile. They obviously don't want people using the forums solely for selling/buying purposes, that would defeat the whole purpose.

Just be involved and the posts will come. Many people just join for the resources/information. Lurkers will never make their presence known, and that's fine too. Joining and reaching the "quality post count" has the added benefit of being able to sell/buy and be reasonably trusted.

Tangent aside...I really need to go and search my parent's attic and see if they kept anything. I love hearing stories like this where someone found a stash in their house or a relatives, a garage sale, etc.

I agree. It's definitely best to try and sell/trade them on here or craiglist since fee's from ebay would kill any profit.

Oh btw! Nice coins!

I try to check in every few days. I'm also going to be posting more here.

While I cringe every time I see my ebay bill for fees, I have to admit that I get more looks, more sales and higher prices on ebay than on other selling venues.

I'm dabbling on Bonanza (for $20 and up items) and on eCrater (for mostly under $10 items). Just starting on both of those venues and I'm still setting up stores and getting items listed. It will be interesting to see what the traffic is there. Others I've talked to say they get maybe 10% of the traffic on those sites that they see on ebay.

This past week, I've sold a couple of silver 1 ounce rounds on ebay. All have gone at least 15% over spot at the close of the auction. The best I can do locally is about 90% of spot price. So even after taking ebay and PayPal fees out, I come out better of ebay.

Actually, on certain specific days, there are a few places I can go (meetings actually) locally and get spot on bullion and melt on coins.

The last round I sold on ebay went for $41 (plus shipping which I price at my actual cost, including padded envelope, no less, no more). On that $41, ebay charged me $3.69 and PayPal took $1.55. That left me with $35.76 when spot was $35.40. I'll take that.

At times, there are bidding wars and I get prices I can't believe. Around the middle of February, I had one guy bid $61.00 on a lot of 4 silver halves. Three were very worn Walking Liberty halves (common dates, maybe G or VG at best), and one was a 1964 Kennedy. I'm still not sure what the guy was smoking.

I have 3 more listed for this week, and I have bids of $37 and $36.22 on two of them (one ends Tuesday night, the other Wednesday night). Silver closed at $35.90 Friday, so both of those are over spot already, and there's always snipes on my auctions in the last hour (often in the last minute).

I have no complaints. I list my stuff there as $0.99 auctions, although I am switching over to $0.02 opening bids (see my avatar). I find low opening bids gets more bidders involved and makes for a much more lively last hour, with higher ending prices.

Very nice!! I just sorted some 10,000 treaties into tubes and rolls. I had no idea I had a few key dates.
