Hello fellow coin nuts! I'm new here and also new to the hobby. Let me first say thanks to all of you because I have been reading the board and learning but never signed up until now. Oooh! By the way, I'm hooked! I can't stop buying coins. I feel like I gotta have them all! hahaha! I think I'm starting a nice collection and can't wait to show you guys. Of corse because I'm new I hope I haven't bought any fakes.. Ok, first topic. I want to take some nice close up pix for you guys but I don't want to spend 2 hundred bucks on this http://cgi.ebay.com/Silver-200X-Zoo...em588a676b47Any suggestions? Second topic. Anyone buy coins from an ebay seller named http://myworld.ebay.com/highrating_...FSX:SELLERIDAll his coins come with a C.O.A. Is it worth the paper it's written on? I know you have to be cautious when buying on ebay. Does his C.O.A. add value? Thanks again! I'm thrilled to be here.

Welcome to CCF. You can buy a USB digital microscope for under $100. Type in the search box upper left of the page. I use a Celestron 44302 that cost me $70 and there is also one called the zOrbe I think. What are you collecting mostly? John1

Welcome. In response to your second topic. I have never bought anything from him as his coins are generally over-priced for what they are. His COA adds no value and is not worth the paper it is written on I am afraid. Regards, Martin

Thanks for the tip John1. I'm collecting Romans and Greeks so far. I will let you guys know what I decide. Here's one: Greek city of Miletos in Ionia Silver 12th Stater 9mm (1.22 grams) Struck circa 525 B.C. Reference: Sear 3532 Head of lion left. Star ornament within incuse square. Not sure I got a good deal or not, but I think great. Martin, Thanks for your insight. I did buy this coin from that seller. Can you give me a value on it?

Hi Welcome to the coin collecting community. That's actually a really nice coin - you have a good eye. That particular seller does have some nice and genuine coins, but he is always vastly overpriced. That's about an $80-$100 coin so I hope you got a good deal. I assume you know about Vcoins? http://www.vcoins.com/which has the largest online ancients shop? or Wildwinds http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/greece/i.htmlwhich is excellent for attributions. Both of these sites will give you a hint about value for a particular coin though it does take some patience to get your eye in.

Thanks Bacchus2. If what you say is true about that seller and value of coin, it looks like I took a bath. Oooh well! guess thats how I learn... I like the coin anyway. I guess I can find peace knowing I am the only one in the world with "THAT" coin! Thanks..

Well - Perhaps I was slightly low with my valuation - I did have my ebay head on :) - but still here is one on Vcoins for €65 http://www.vcoins.com/ancient/marcw...dProduct=377which is not quite as well centred as yours but does a very vibrant style. Style of die engraving is one of those "un classifiable" things that is really improtant with ancients, particually Greek. We have all overpaid in the past - don't let it put you off - as I said - it is a really nice coin. Don't lose it - I know how tiny those things are :)

Hey Bacchus2! Looks like someone else paid a little more for a coin just like mine in this thread. Or maybe prices are coming up? LOL! Either way I like the coin and I'm not looking to sell it anytime soon. I didn't pay 300+ BTW http://cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=181782

CNG is a very good auction house that specialises in ancients. Prices there are usually on the higher side because they have a great reputation and the chances of a fake slipping past them are slim. I know because I have bought a lot from them - and undoubtedly overpaid. If I ever had to sell my collection I'd go through them.
That particular coin is quite plentiful and the range of prices is huge. I actually don't have one and your's is a very nice one. I'm sure you will be very happy with it.
