I have been trying to identify either the country, the year and or both on these coins for the last hour and am giving up and asking for help. It is literally giving me a headache from all of the squinting. Please help.

Arabic Coin

These-Are-Giving-Me-A-Headache!

Arabic Coin Reverse ~ I know it's 10 but don't know if it is fils, millims, etc., since I don't know the country.

UPDATE NOTE: upon further research I have found out it is Egypt - 10 milliemes. I just don't know how to read the date.

These-Are-Giving-Me-A-Headache!

Taiwanese Coins ~ I know they are 1 yuan I just don't know the year. If anybody has a website for reading Taiwanese coins that would be great.

UPDATE NOTE: I know they are the same year, however, I can't find the chinese or taiwanese equivalent of the website I posted below for Japanese coins so I don't know how to read it.

The next two are I believe chinese cash coins but I am not totally sure. If the characters are upside down or something I apologize.

Obverse #1 ~ approximately the size of a dime

Reverse #1

Obverse #2 ~ approximately the size of a quarter

Reverse #2

Any links to websites for identifying either arabic or asian coins, specifically reading dates would be great. Thanks for the help.

Here is a good one for Japanese coins. This is the kind of website I am looking for. Unfortunately they don't have anything on chinese or arabic coins.

Sorry for the big post.

Egyptian 10 milliemes: the dates are two sets of four characters at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock respectively. The numerals are Arabic, sometimes called "Eastern Arabic" to distinguish them from the "Western Arabic" numerals we use. You'll find a conversion table in the front of any Krause catalogue. The figures that look like "197V" are actually the Arabic numerals for "1967" - that's the AD date. The other set of numerals is the date in the Islamic calendar: AH 1386.

Taiwanese: the date-numerals are the ones on either side of the character that looks a but like a "plus-sign": + which actually is the number "10". The other date-numerals are "9" (to the left of +) and "4". So the year is either "49" or "94" (I can never remember which way around it's supposed to go), and these coins were struck in the period 49-60 - so year 49 (AD 1960) it is.

Chinese cash: yes, they're both Chinese. The first is right way up. These "machine struck" cash are listed under "Kwantung province", KM/Y#191 as being struck in the period 1906-1908.

The second is upside down, and dates from the reign of the Qian Long emperor (1736-1796). That one's from one of the central mints. You can't date it any more precisely than that - putting dates on coins never really took off in China until the Westerners arrived.

There are a couple of links in the "Info and Helpful Links" forum; check the archived threads, too. Look for threads with titles like "Japanese date converter" and that sort of thing.

Hi Irishraider, the Krause & Mishler Standard catalog for world coins (hence the KM# for the coins) has good conversion aids for most anything you could want in the "Standard International Numeral Systems" chart in the fromt of the books.

Interestingly the Egyptian coin is from the shortlived United Arab Republic era (late 50's and early60's) when Egypt and Syria formed a coalition of sorts and their coinage was very similar. You can easily tell the country of origin of coins of this type eagle above the shield. The two stars (I presume) represent the two countries in the alliance. There's a good article about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Arab_Republic
