I just started selling on ebay last month but was well acquainted with their fee structure and PayPal requirements long ago. Honestly I've been happy with how things have worked out thus far. I take 10% off my sale price to figure my (approximate) net after eBay/PayPal fees and that's the way it's worked so far. I actually sold a couple items where the fee total was only 7%-8%. I'm protecting myself as best I can but do realize the buyer has some options for jacking me if they're willing to commit a crime.

My fees run 12% normally and when I am a powerseller it drops down to 10%. Don't know of any auctions where I can do better and get good prices. Our local auction house charges 15% so I'm pretty happy with ebay.

I both love and hate ebay at the same time. Their fees are indeed a pain in the neck, but where else can you get nationwide/worldwide exposure to millions of potential buyers? I've sold many unique items that would have been impossible to sell locally through a bricks and mortar store.

My ebay fees typically run between $200-$500 per month (not counting PayPal fees and shipping) and I gripe and snivel about it every month, but a traditional bricks and mortar store will cost far more than that per month with a lot less customer traffic. So in the end, I just wince and fork it over.

cwb8539: You should add an ebay link to your CCF profile so we can view your items.

cwb8539...you could also let the customer pay shipping..it would save you on fees.Ebay encourages free shipping because they make more fees.Even if your final price drops by the shipping cost, you still save money.
