I just moved here from the US. I have collected US coins for several years, but am now starting an Aussie collection. I look forward to devouring this forum as there is much for me to learn. I'm sure I'll be asking a few questions in the coming months. Thanks.

Welcome and what part of the country did you settle in?
Have you discovered the Australian Coin and Banknote magazine?
Has great information including most of the coin club in Oz.
You have questions we will try to answer them for you.

Hi Neaesculus, Welcome to the Country and to the Forum. You'll find Australia a wonderful place and you'll not believe this but it will take a little time to learn the language.
As far as coin collecting goes your first step should be getting a Australian Coins and Banknotes pocket guide by Greg McDonald. Australia has a lot of variety in circulation and there even more variety of Non Circulating Legal Tender for collectors.
Cheers

Welcome NEAesculus, I'll second CAB and Maccas. Renniks also produce a price guide that is worth looking at too. Richard's website at https://www.aussie-coins.com is a fantastic resource as well! Mark

Hi NEAesculus! Welcome to the CC Family. I highly recommend buying the latest copy of the Greg McDonald guidebook, and also a subscription to Coin and Banknote is a good idea too. I hope you enjoy your time here, and make sure you ask any sort of question. The only silly question is the one you don't ask!

If you Google the word "smiley" or "emoticon" you will come up with heaps of places which allow you to download smileys.

Hi NEAesculus,
Welcome to the CC Forum - Aussie Section.
I also recommend you get the CAB magazine and either or both the Guides - McDonalds and Renniks, but hold off a couple of months if you are not in a big hurry as the new editions will be out for Christmas.
Enjoy.

Welcome to the CC Family NEAesculus.
Feel free to ask all you want.
I agree with Wayne (Brissyboy), the magazine and books he suggested to purchase is well worth it.

I'm still here. The reality is that I completely forgot about that post nearly a year ago, and was quite surprised when I "found" this site today and noticed that post of mine. I guess I got busy after the move.
Anyway I have been collecting Australian coins for over a year now. I wasn't sure where to start at first. I thought I would put together a type collection, starting with decimal coins, but found it difficult to determine where to draw the line, so I am now fully entrenched with doing a full decimal set of RAM coins of 1c - $2 in UNC condition.
I have been a quite frustrated with the number of issues the RAM have produced in the last couple of years. But rather than have regrets later, I have been obtaining all the new stuff as it is released, as well as trying to obtain the older issues.
I now live in Melbourne, we moved from the Gold Coast a few months ago.
