Ok, I might have a coin that I want to send it for slabbing because I have a tendency that I cannot preserve copper coins very well.

Are there any dealers in Australia that actually can help to send coins for grading or the only option is to do it by ourselves?

Moderators: I know it's a rather irrevelent question but this is the only place where Aussies are around to answer better

I have to ask, what is slabbing? I have seen this term come up and still havent worked out what it means.

As for a flogging, I have no idea why but a flogging is a flogging so count me in.

Slabbing is the grading and encapsulation of a coin (or script) by a third party grading service (TPGs). It's mostly popular here in the US and Canada, less popular elsewhere. A coin in a slab is supposed to ensure that a coin is as advertised when offered for sale sight unseen by ebay, auction houses, online sellers, mail order, etc. TPGs are somewhat controversial since there is a certain amount of subjectivity during the grading process and the notion has been seriously abused by fraudulent slabbers. CCF has a whole section on TPGs. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=84

Chris Buesnell sends off coins to be slabbed by PCGS I think it is. From what I've seen they are well done. I want to send one off myself but a bit iffy about sending away a 6.5k coin lol

Putting aside emotional attachments of a particular coin, can anyone suggest what would be the minium value of a coin they would slab?

I am thinking about using this process, but the cost is limiting for my humble collection.

I would probably lean more to the rarity of the coin, as opposed strictly to the value itself. (although there is obviously a correlation between value and rarity).

As PCGS and NGC are around $15-$20 I think, I probably wouldn't worry about anything worth less than $100. But with that being said, if I found a new issue that was in particularly high grade that I may only pay a couple of bucks for, I would still send it off.

I would only ever use PCGS or NGC. ANACS has sort of become the service to go for if the coin has some sort of damage or unfavourable irregularity to it. I personally would not use any of the the other services.
