I found this roll searching a while ago and just got around to taking pictures. I don't know what the anomaly is under the "4" and was hoping someone could help me. It's raised very slightly, not even as high as the rim. It's definitely part of the coin, not loose at all. In fact, it kind of looks like a real low Cud.

Oh, yeah, it's not glue or anything like that, either. It's definitely metal.

That would be odd zinc rot. Looks melted. Really I have no idea.

Zinc's melting point is low, at 787F. Copper's melting point is quite a bit higher at 1984F. It looks like it's been torched on the edge and molten zinc has bubbled up under the copper. Hence the black spot?

I completely agree because of the abnormality of the rim. Almost looks like a Cud, but damaged it seems.

That seems like an awful lot of extra metal compared to the rim ding to me. And it seems so uniform and clean.

Any chance the rim ding could have come later and the extra metal was on the planchet when it was struck?
Kinda resembles a rolling fold error.

Scooby - the rim ding was not there months ago when I found this one. In the pix it looks like a ding but it's actually just a dark spot. That darkness has developed over the last few months. Unfortunately this coin hung out in an environmentally unfriendly area by mistake. It was with a pile of zinc cents I meant to take back to the bank. I just found it again.
