Read the description if you're confused.

And to think in 1926 it was only worth 1/14950000th of that.

Quote: i am confused...why so much? It is a condition rarity. Nobody paid much attention to them when they were issued in 1926 and as a result, the vast majority did just what they were designed to do...they circulated...a lot. Today, heavily circulated examples are plentiful, but MS examples are rare. The second thing to consider is that this issue (along with a lot of other 20's branch mint Lincolns) is notorious for having been struck with overused dies. The quality of the strike is taken into consideration in the MS grades. Finding examples with a good strike is a challenge. Lastly, the demand for all Lincolns is incredibly high, but especially for high grade Lincolns. There is far more demand for high grade Lincolns than there is supply. Put all that together and the result is moon money!

At a price like that I'm starting to reconsider my target condition for my Lincoln set.

Think the buyer cracked it and put it in their Dansco?

This coin also exemplifies that desparity between NGC and PCGS. MS-65RD coins in NGC slabs have been selling in the $6000-9000 range.....a HUGE difference!

Quote: Think the buyer cracked it and put it in their Dansco? Absolutly not. Probably put it in a Whitman Classic Album. That is where I put all my MS-65 and higher graded coins. Not sure why so many are amazed at that price. Doesn't everyone pay that for coins? Now if it was not in a slab, might have sold for $300.00 + or - a few hundred thousand.

Considering how easily red copper can fade and/or develops spots, this price is insanity on steroids.

For something like that, I don't get the price, but to each his own. I'm sure it will be locked away in a safe some place and wont' see daylight for years to come.
