Wish I could have examined them first.

Someone may be looking through them. They finally accepted them at another branch... probably one that is frequently ordering boxes for roll-hunters.

Quote: Does my pennies stink? Probably could have sold them on ebay for $9-10,000 to the copper hoarders.

Saw that. Just a couple pounds to haul there. Will cost to deposit that much coinage as well.

A gy tried to pay his State Taxes that way here (NY) several years ago. I believe the Legislature latter passed a bill limiting the amount of cents (sense?) That HAD to be accepted to $99.99.

There are laws about how much coin is considered "Legal Tender" but the next best thing (and I know this for a fact) is to use massive amounts of two dollar bills. People consider it a novelty to get a few of the notes, but when you are doing a transaction with a few hundred or thousands of them it's a whole new game. Trust me, I know

People like that just annoy me.
He's either trying to make some sort of a "statement" or he's just being a jerk...or perhaps he's just looking for his 15 minutes of fame. Any way you slice it though, it is just so unnecessary and it's been done before, numerous times. He's far from the first to think of this little stunt and while it might have been novel at first, it's overdone. Also I'm not sure if it is mentioned in the link above specifically or if I read/saw it elsewhere but this is not his first attempt at this-- the first time they were un-rolled, and he was surprised they wouldn't take them that way. Well, duh!
I view this guy much as I would the jerk who walks into a grocery store at 3 AM, wants to buy a pack of gum with a $100 bill and makes everyone behind him wait while the sole checker on duty checker patiently explains that they do not accept large bills at that hour. "Ooh look at me, I'm a high roller and I've got a hundred dollar bill!" "Ooh look at me, I have a truckload of pennies!"
I do not salute him at all.
Sorry for the rant, I just have a dislike for people who purposely go out of their way to mess with other people for no better reason than "because they can." he chose to do business with this bank, and they apparently provided him with a fairly sizeable line of credit... and this is how he repays them? This guy has a business, what would he do if someone tried to pay their bill to him in pennies? Made him count out 650k unrolled cents? Do you think he'd take it? Do you think he'd want to spend the manpower to count it all out? Why should the bank?
What's worse, I'd bet an audit of his financials would show he purchased these cents just to do this. I find it doubtful he just had these lying around. So the bank would lose 2x-- once to fulfill his order, and then once to deal with this glut of pennies. AND, if he did indeed purchase them, that means he unrolled them for his first attempt.
Stunts like this only contribute to the "get rid of the penny" crowd and to the growing sentiment of banks to charge for coin transactions-- which hurts all of us.

Quote: This guy has a business, what would he do if someone tried to pay their bill to him in pennies? I believe that everyone has a right to their own opinion, and do agree with some of what you said. He is a jerk to do that, even if it is funny for some of the rest of us here (me being one). I deal with so much unrolled coin every week it would boggle some people's minds. In fact much of my work week is spent just trying to maintain, organize, and deposit coin both in bulk and rolled. I have to deal with close to 2000 pounds of the UNROLLED stuff every week. It's a burden at times, but can be done. Here's my take on it. If someone wants to pay me over $6000 in coin I will HAPPILY take it and the reason why is because I would have made over $6000 that day!
