Lamination? Finally pulled a few coins out of the bag that Indian1 sent me (Thank you sir!)and I saw this.

I would say it was Lamination peel.

That could even be one heck of a crack overlaying a struck-through. A lam will smooth out over time, so that's not out of the running, either. We need better pics straight-on to be more definitive.

I lightened up the image and there is a part of the coin that is delaminating. It is hard to determine if this is a result of a problem with the planchet as the coin was minted...or if it is a result of corrosion that occurred later in the coins life.

The color indicates that some corrosion has taken a toll on the coin.

I wouldn't rule out a lamination error but I wouldn't rule it in entirely either.

Ah, it's conclusive--lamination all the way! That's common on these early wheats; however, they manifest in so many different shapes and sizes, and this one's cool.

Heck, it almost took his forehead off.

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure. Trying to learn the different varieties and errors so I'm keeping and taking notes on those that I find.
