Hi, I came across this coin in a roll and am wondering if the dot on the back of the King's head is something common or not. Any and all opinions and comments are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

I noticed the white dot on the coin so I wiped it off the coin before this scan. That is why it looks a little different than the last one.

Looks like there is metal missing above the ear and moved to behind the head.

Def looks mint related. Try and post some enlarged images of your scans.

Still a bit hard to full see but I can make out a wave just about that 'dot'. The back of the King's head is/should be a nice flowing curve. From what I can see the 'dot' could be pushed metal but I am willing to bet it was from the die strike at the mint. Do you know how to make a high-res scan and enlarge it, make a smaller jpeg for here. Here is one of mine...

No I don't really know much about scanning things. All I know is that to make it small enough to upload that is about as big as I can make it. I will try again.

-nateb20- My best opinion is that it is a piece of metal like a piece of the die that chipped off something.
---It could be a denticle perhaps that broke off as a die wares and got embedded. Also known as extra metal by graders. Have a look around the coin closely and you might spot where the missing piece of metal or not comes from, but worth the look!
---Let me know if you see it.

Nice coin thecanuckguy. I am going to have to learn more about this scanning thing I guess.

Commoncents I did take a look for the missing metal. The only place I can see on the Obverse of the coin that has missing metal is a dot about the same size from above the ear. I have posted a new pic showing both the missing metal and the dot behind the head. They both look about the same size to me.

IMO.. the area above the King's ear is post mint damage, the area behind his head looks like a die chip.
