Hi friends, I am getting conflicting numbers from coin shows stating the 2006w Silver Eagle Dollar 20th Ann coin has only 10,000 total. Is this right? Are the single 2006 w the same as the group coins the 2006w gold,2006w silver? I just order 15 at $19.99 from the mint last week and they won't be shipped until 11/03, but Coin Vault, Coin Country has them graded already and selling for $299/$399 Ms Ngc 69, whats up with that? Did I buy the BOOBY W eagle? TY Coin Hog

Coin Hog,

I believe the 10,000 number is only the reverse proof gold eagles sold in the 20th anniversary set ($2,610 from the mint that sold out in 24 hours or so). These are the sets going for about $4,000 or more on ebay right now. Some PF70 graded reverse proof coins are going for as much as $5,000 to $6,000 for just that one coin.

And I think all the coins will grade out at least MS/PF 69. The key is hoping to buy a set and getting it graded to a 70. I think that's what all these dealers do. Buy a bunch and hope to get a big percentage graded 70 instead of 69.

The Silver Eagle reverse proof coins show a mintage of $250,000 on the U.S. mints website. Here is the link to that page:

The price Coin Vault is charging sounds about right for their extra hyped up inventory. Anything they sell should be about 1/2 to 2/3 cheaper other places.

I do think those silver reverse proofs will be of some value in the future, just not nearly as much as the gold ones. I ordered a couple of them, but I might buy a couple more. I really like the American Eagle coins. Very beautiful coins.

you can still purchase the 20th anniversary silver set from the mints website, which will incluse the uncirculated with W mint mark, the Proof and the Reverse proof ASE for 100.00 per set with a limit of 10 per order

The Silver ASE series is on backorder until 12/08/2006. I don't know if that means they are completely sold out, or when they expect to have production available to ship out. I ordered 5 yesterday since I want a few of the reverse silver eagles. I think they will be a poor mans gold reverse eagle someday. They are really nice looking coins!
