I tried to do a search for this but wasn't getting any good results so I'll just ask.

This is the first time I have seen this on a silver nickel. Is this common for the surface to crack and separate like this on a War Nickel? Where it goes through Monticello the surface is lifted enough I could put my fingernail under it and flake it off if I wanted... I don't want to, just sayin

The alloy used in warnix was notorious for not mixing well. I've seen thousands of them with everything from from small intact laminations like yours to ones where a major area of the coin has peeled off. Underlying surfaces are usually rough and crystalline in appearance.

The part about this that stinks the most is I find a nice one with steps in circulation and was so psyched until I put the magnifying glass to it.
